Our Mission

What We Believe In

Our mission is to reduce plastic pollution by diverting reusable plastics from landfills to organizations that re-use cleaned plastic containers for those in need including homeless shelters, community food kitchens and other like-minded organizations or individuals in the Atlanta area.

Our Story

Dedication and Service

It is incredible how one small idea can grow into something truly special. ReTakeOut is rooted in the belief that we all have an inherent responsibility to make a meaningful difference in our community. As a volunteer-run organization, we harness our skills and resources to successfully achieve our goals.

Want to take part? Contribute to our work by donating or volunteering today.

How Does It Work?

  • Donations of reusable plastic containers can be picked up or dropped off, or placed in donation boxes at donation drives or participating businesses

  • Donation boxes share the mission of ReTakeOut and give clear instructions on the donation box for those wanting to donate used plastic containers

  • Donation boxes will be checked on a regular basis and all donated reusable plastic containers will be sorted for reuse

  • These reusable plastic containers will be then distributed to other organizations in our network that work directly to provide food for those in need

  • We also take sealed plastic utensils

  • Items we do not need: glass, cups/bottles/jars, drinking straws, chopsticks, paper products

Our Founder

Our organization is the brainchild of Sophia Wang, a student at Chamblee High School in the Atlanta area who has always had an interest in protecting our beautiful planet and practicing the 3 R’s--reducing waste, reusing materials and recycling. After high school graduation, she plans on attending college and studying environmental science/policy and German.
